Every morning the kids get breakfast. Now, it goes without saying that workday morning are very hectic, so what they usually get is a bowl of cereal in milk or maybe a toast or a slice of cake in the worst case, but Saturdays are different. Aside from the fact that it’s the weekend and we are in no rush to anywhere, I think it’s the fact that the kids let me sleep in that puts me in a mood to make something different and more home made than just cereal. So this Saturday I made some French toast. Traditionally what I would do is slice the bread, dip in milk and then in beaten egg and fry in oil. I find that the whole dipping process is a bit messy so what I did is just dip everything at once 🙂
The kids love it this way and I don’t need to cut it into small pieces for them. Just serve and eat. Perfect.
Ingredients: (Yields 2-3 servings)
4 Thick slices of bread
1 Egg
1/2 cup milk
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
5 tbsp vegetable oil – for the frying pan
Directions:
1. Cut the bread slices into cubes. You can decide on the size.
2. In a deep bowl, beat the egg along with the milk and cinnamon.
3. Pour the bread cubes into the egg batter and fold in gently until cubes are fully coated with batter.
4. Using a big spoon, place the coated cubes on a preheated, oiled frying pan and let fry over medium heat until golden; once golden, turn to the other side until golden as well and serve.
